Dear Member,
Well its that time of year again time to dust off the rackets that is! The Aer Lingus Badminton Club season starts next Monday, 23rd August at 8pm.
The 2009/2010 season ended very successfully with Mens 1, 4 and 5 and Mixed 1 teams reaching the finals in the League. Both Mens 1 and 5 came out on top with Mens 5 doing the Cup/League double. Well done to all and I hope you can all continue to play as well again this coming season.
It was agreed at the AGM that the committee would meet to discuss the costs for next year and agree on fees. At our committee meeting of 10th August, it was agreed to set the fee at 160 for this season. The reason for the small increase is reduced membership, the fees for the hall are being increased slightly, although we are trying to negotiate the same rate as last year. However, shuttles are our still the most expensive outgoing and this cost is only expected to rise. We would encourage all members to please be mindful of the shuttles during club play as best you can.
The final date for receipt of completed Application Forms is Monday 13th September. This is imperative if you wish to play on a team. Please give your completed Form to Enda or any other committee member in his absence. Team Selectors will be meeting and selecting from opening night , so please ensure that you come up to club to ensure your place.
Peg Board details will be forwarded next week. Please note that it is very important that you check this list and ensure you are available on the night. It is up to each club member to get a substitute to cover the board if unavailable. It is also up to every member up on the night to help out the person on duty with setting up and taking down of nets, clearing up shuttles, etc.
Note for your diary: The Air Canada tournament is on 1st 3rd October. If you would like to take part in this tournament, please let a committee member know as soon as possible. The registration details will follow shortly. This is a fun tournament so the more the merrier!
ALSAA have also updated their website, checkout www.alsaa.ie. They have started a weekly lotto draw, numbers can be selected and paid for online. If you play 25% goes to the nominated club so please select Badminton Senior Club. The benefit is you could win while helping out the Club e.g. to purchase shuttles, etc.
Look forward to seeing you all next week.
